France vs. Chicago

On our last day of touring France, all I can say is wow! The city is so similar yet so different to Chicago. It really has made this whole visit a lot more like simply going on a field trip for school rather than a tour overseas. Here are some similarities and some differences that I have noticed.

As you can see, the architecture is very different here. It has a very classical feel to it. It feels as if I took a step into an old movie. Another part of the buildings I love are the balconies. They are not like the buildings in Chicago. These buildings are mainly made of a special rock that could be found in the center of France and Normandy. It's called tufo here in France. It looks much better compared to the bricks and metal we often see in the Chicago buildings. Much more elegant.

These fancy looking balconies are very common here in France. Almost every single building has them and they are so pretty. Most buildings have their own unique design and they really set one apart from the other. You just have to open the door and you are looking out into the streets of Paris. Sadly our hotel doesn't have these said balconies but it really is a unique experience the see them.

Just like in Chicago, Paris has some pretty tall buildings. Today we went to the Tour de Montparnasse and went all the way to the top. We were able to see all of Paris and it reminded me of the sky deck of the Sears/Willis tower. We were able to see the Tour d'Eiffel and the beauty of the city of Paris.

While there may not be statues in the center of every intersection, there are many statues of historical figures all throughout Paris.

And of course Chicago doesn't have a huge castle. Then again the castle is in Versailles and not Paris.

Both Paris and Chicago have large, beautiful rivers.

And most importantly...

Finding Dory is universal. (Although it is called The World of Dory here)

Tomorrow we head to Germany and I cannot wait to meet my host family!
