On the first day, all of us were first introduced to the city of Paris. Among the highlights was the Notre Dame cathedral, which we were able to view from the inside. Its historic architecture and designs were absolutely stunning. After having dinner at a cafe on the streets of the city, we headed to our hotel for our first night.
On day two, we departed the city of Paris and headed for the beaches of
Normandy, an historic location from World War II. The memorial was located in the city of Caen, and it featured a small museum contextualizing the memorial accompanied with a short film displaying scenes from the battle. Standing on the beaches of Normandy was very emotional, imagining all the thousands of men that fought and died here to liberate France. Pictures cannot do justice to the feeling of seeing the sand and water up close in person.
Our final day we started by visiting the palace at Versailles. This
landmark building is incredibly ornate, with grounds covering an incredible 2,014 acres of land. The historical background was very interesting, and the gardens were equally beautiful. The next location we visited was the Montparnasse tower. From the top, you could clearly see the Eiffel Tower and the skyline of Paris.
We concluded our evening with a fantastic boat tour through the Seine River. From the water, you could clearly see the Eiffel Tower!
Although our time in France has ended, we are fortunate to still have a week left to spend in Germany to see more amazing cultural sights and play our performances!
